Inside the Studio

The artist seated in his studio surrounded by canvases

The studio is a converted garage with one good window and a radio that only finds one station.

Everything in it is arranged around the same idea: I want to be able to see the last three things I made without getting up. If a painting can survive being looked at from that chair, it usually survives the wall.

I clean up at the end of every day. Not for virtue — for the next morning, so the first hour is for painting instead of searching.
